A brief note about Samsun and phone updates.

While Samsung does seemingly have a good track record when it comes to updates abroad their current history of providing updates in the US is somewhat lackluster. The Captivate was released in July and just received its update to Froyo in late February. As of February 5th 57.6% of Android devices were on Froyo according to Google and as of that date only one of the Galaxy S phones released on a major US carrier updated to Froyo was the Vibrant. To date the Captivate has now received the update, missing some key features like BlueTooth voice dialing (desperately needed in states requiring hands free operation) for example. The update for the Epic was pulled after it was shown to introduce lag for some users when accessing multimedia. The Fascinate, only Samsung and Verizon know when that will get its update. To date there are still likely bugs that others find critical in the update provided, like this one ( http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=15033&colspec=ID%20Type%20Status%20Owner%20Summary%20Stars ) unfortunately this bug only manifests on Samsung phones apparently as a Tilt2 and Atrix have been tested and both received the message in a manner that didn't throw the phone into a boot loop. Since these updates are critical and could also provide us protection from malware and exploits many of us feel they should be readied and released much more quickly.
